Academic Probation and Student Success Plans

In any term where a student has one D, F, WF, ID, or IF grades, the student is placed on a student success plan, as determined by the Student Success Team.

In any term where a student has two or more total D, F, WF, ID or IF grades, or fails to meet the conditions of an academic success plan the student is placed on academic probation.

A student on academic probation shall be given a student success plan by the Student Success Team. When on probation, they cannot serve on Student Council, any Seminary committee/workgroup, or as a Teaching Assistant (TA).  They also cannot take an overload (more than 4.0 courses in fall or spring semesters; more than 2.0 courses in winter or summer).

When a student is placed on academic probation they will also be placed on Financial Aid Warning. Students on Financial Aid Warning must complete all courses attempted in their next term with a passing grade (P/C- or higher). Failure to do so will result in Financial Aid Suspension, which means they are ineligible for Luther Seminary financial aid and federal student loans.

If a student does not successfully complete and pass all classes in their next term (by getting a P/C- or higher in all classes), their probation continues.

In order to be removed from academic probation the student must successfully complete all courses in their next registered term (P/C- or higher in all courses) and must meet the condition of their academic success plan (if applicable).

After two consecutive terms on probation or three total terms on probation, a student shall be withdrawn from their program.
