Holds

Occasionally a hold may be placed on your student account which will need to be cleared before you can register for future terms.

Advising - In order to clear an advising hold you will need to contact your academic advisor. This hold can be related to an academic performance issue, or it may be placed by admissions at the time of your matriculation. advising@luthersem.edu

Business Office - Overdue tuition, fees, or rent will result in a business office hold. This hold will need to be cleared before you are allowed to register for the next term. busoffice@luthersem.edu

Candidacy - Issues with your candidacy process will result in a candidacy hold. You will need to meet with the contextual education team to clear this hold. candidacy@luthersem.edu

Title IX - Failure to complete federally mandated Title IX training will result in a Title IX hold. You will need to complete the training to remove this hold. titleix@luthersem.edu

Writing - If the admissions committee (new admits) or a faculty member (of a registered course) identifies that you need support with your academic writing, a writing hold will be placed on your account. If you are admitted with a writing hold you will need to complete LG1000 - Theological Writing in the Fall term. A domestic student who fails LG1000 will not be allowed to continue in the program. An International student who does not pass LG1000 in fall can take it again in the Winter (but no other course). If the International student fails on the second attempt they are removed from the program. LG1000 is a zero credit writing course which works in tandem with a class you are already taking to support you in your writing ability.

If during your first term, a faculty member determines your writing is deficient, they can recommend a hold, and you will need to take the writing course (LG1000) in the Winter term. You need to complete the course before you continue in a future term.  writing@luthersem.edu
